The Taipei Folk Dance Theatre 2004 US Tour

Taipei Folk Dance Theatre was founded in September 1988 by Professor Li-Hua Tsai, and is the first professional ethnic dance company in Taiwan.

The company's mission is to promote the beauty of Taiwanese ethnic dance, to preserve the ethnic dance culture of aboriginal Taiwanese, and to explore the influence of Chinese traditional dance. Taipei Folk Dance Theatre is renowned for its unique style of traditional Taiwanese folk dance and its important role in creating a new era for the development of theatrical ethnic dance in Taiwan.

Since it's founding, the company has presented new productions almost annually, including “Dancing of New Prospect of Cockaigne” (1990), “Cockaigne Culture and Affection”(1991), “Praise of Chinese Culture” (1992), “Dancing the Affection for Taiwan”(1993), “Beauty of Chinese Dance”(1994), “Praise of Buddhism”(1995), “Princess Peacock”(1996), “Special Race, Different Dance”(1997), “The Obsession of Mandala” 2000), ”Rite of Dance and Music to My Dreamland”(2001),”The Music and Dance of Formosa”(2002), ”The Multiplying Sprouting from the buds of Resplendent Classics “(2003).

They have presented over 600 performances in over 40 countries in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa, receiving numerous top awards in international dance events. Critics have hailed Taipei Folk Dance Theatre as “the dance company that contains the most of the ethnic Chinese culture,” “The most impressing and powerful oriental dance company,” and “Exquisite dancing techniques, the best representation of the Taiwanese culture.”
