From temple front folk rituals to choreographed theater staging presentation Hung-Sheng Lion Dance Theater brings a unique program on tour to North America
Hung-Sheng Lion Dance Theater, the first professional Lion Dance company in Taiwan presents a unique program on a 6-cities North America tour in August 2005. Legendary animals have portrayed many meanings in the different cultures. In Taiwan the Lion and its dance represents fortune and prosperity. Traditionally perform at ceremonies and festivals; the Lion Dance serves as a signifier for celebration. Director Chang Yuan-Jung artfully combined folk story tales, myths and religious ceremony both Cantonese and Fujian styles into lion dance choreographies. All members of Hung-Sheng Lion Dance Theater receive trainings in martial arts, lion dances, drumming and acrobatics. Director Chang transformed the company from temple auspicious rituals into a first class Dance Theater performing at prestigious international festivals and performing arts theater stages. Hung-Sheng Lion Dance Theater has toured to Cologne, Berlin, Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Washington, DC and New York City.
